Real folders
Boxes are ordinary folders on your desktop. Quit Bento and everything is still exactly where Finder expects it.
A desktop organizer for Mac
Bento sorts the files on your Mac’s desktop into glass boxes in one click, then keeps them sorted as new screenshots and downloads arrive. It learns the folders you already use, reads your screenshots so you can find them by what’s in them, and never deletes a thing.
Coming soon · Planned launch price $5 · macOS 14 or later
22 files sorted into 4 boxes

A live demo, running in your browser. The app does the same thing on your real desktop, with real folders.
how it works
Bento looks at what’s on your desktop and the folders you already keep, like screenshots filed by month. You see the plan before anything moves.
Each box is a normal folder you can open in Finder. Finder’s desktop icons step aside while Bento runs and come back the moment it quits.
Take a screenshot or save a download and it lands in the right box a second later, newest first, ready to drag into Slack, Mail or a chat.
your folders, your way
If you keep screenshots in month folders, or second-screen captures in their own folder, Bento notices and keeps doing it your way. Folders it creates follow your naming style, lower-case or Title Case.
the intelligence
Bento reads the words in your screenshots and PDFs right on your Mac, using Apple’s Vision framework. Every box shows what a file is about, and ⌃⌥⌘F finds “that pricing table from Tuesday” in a second. On Macs with Apple Intelligence, it names your newest screenshots with Apple’s on-device model too. No account, no API keys, nothing uploaded.
the details

Click a file and press Space to preview it. Arrow keys browse the box, Return opens, drag it anywhere.
Drag files from anywhere onto a box and they’re filed, by month if that’s how you keep it.
Boxes blur your wallpaper and darken themselves on bright spots so labels stay readable.
Boxes keep clear of your desktop widgets and remember where you put them on each display.
⌃⌥⌘T tidies, ⌃⌥⌘Z undoes, ⌃⌥⌘F searches. No Accessibility permission needed.
safe by design
Bento moves files. It doesn’t delete them, rename your folders or send anything anywhere.

questions
No. It only moves files into folders on your desktop, and it never overwrites anything: when names clash it keeps both. The only way a file goes to the Trash is if you choose Move to Trash yourself, and Finder’s Put Back still works.
No. Sorting uses plain rules and the folders you already have. Reading text in screenshots uses Apple’s Vision framework on your Mac. If your Mac has Apple Intelligence, Bento can use Apple’s on-device model for titles, and it works fine without it.
While Bento runs, its boxes take their place, and anything that stays loose shows in an On Desktop box. When Bento quits, Finder’s icons come back. You can also keep Finder’s icons visible with one switch.
Yes. Undo Last Tidy (⌃⌥⌘Z) puts the files back where they were, and Put Everything Back undoes everything Bento has ever moved.
macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon and Intel. Apple Intelligence titles need macOS 26 on an Apple silicon Mac with Apple Intelligence turned on.
Email within 14 days for a full refund. Then choose Put Everything Back in Settings and delete the app; your desktop is as it was.
